KAVU HQ was flooded with requests for traditional sunhat after the Strapcap came to be. We take inspiration from all corners of globe and the Chillba is a prime example. KAVUism #247 "Local Feel, Worldwide Appeal". This hat will make you smile but its functionality is dead serious. Wide brim offers stellar sun coverage and the internal mesh headpiece with nylon tubular webbing means a super-secure fit. Did we mention it can float and carry beer? Tested by billions to keep your melon in the shade and do it in style!
The Chillba was born when Barry was paging through National Geographic magazine and saw a photo of a woman riding a motor scooter in Vietnam. He was impressed with the lightweight design providing sun coverage and breathability in warm climates. At KAVU converting a traditional hat into an outdoor classic starts with a utility knife and a used pizza box laying around the office. Several boxes were sacrificed on the cutting floor until Barry created a workable pattern resembling pac-man. The idea was brought to Mr. Hong and the pair got to work. Barry sourced the foam and Mr. Hong designed the mesh cap with webbing and adjustment to allow a secure fit and ideal breathability.
The best way to store our famous Chillba hat is hanging it on a wall or resting it on a shelf. Travel much? You can roll it like a burrito but, don't fold it like a taco. (Once it's creased - it's creased so, don't flatten or fold it!)
